About the Lotus EvoraThe Lotus Evora is a luxury sports car that was developed and launched at the British International Motor Show in 2008. It is a 2+2 mid-engined coupe that is actually large enough inside to accommodate taller persons, unlike other smaller sport cars. This is in part due to the design contributions made by Mike Kimberly, the Lotus CEO, who is 6'5 tall. It is also offered in a 2-seater model, the "Plus Zero" option. Many critics have indicated that the 2+2 does not really have a lot of room in the rear seat, and that it would be best used for cargo instead of people. The Lotus Evora is slightly larger than the fellow Lotus model Elise, and others, with a curb weight of 3,000 pounds. It is a rear mid-engine vehicle, with rear-wheel drive that handles very well. The name "Evora" is in line with the traditions at Lotus of naming vehicles with the letter "E". The name is a combination of letters from the following words: evolution, vogue, and aura. Approximately 2,000 cars per year is the expected sales target, with each car priced between £45,000 to a little... View more over £50,000 (British) or about $75,000. During development at British manufacturer Lotus, Evora carried a project name of Project Eagle. The 2010 model is the only mid-engine 4-seater sports car in the world. It has a comfortable front seating area, with luxurious leather interior and carpeting. Assembly is at the plant at Hethel, Norfolk, England. The Lotus Evora is the creation of a joint effort between CEO Mike Kimberly and his chief engineer, Roger Becker. The vehicle is very speedy, able to go from zero to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, and it has a top speed of 162 mph. Fuel economy is good, with 17/27 mpg city/highway ratings. Perhaps the most unique thing that sets Lotus Evora apart from other vehicles is its body construction in three parts that are bonded and bolted together. This feature makes repairs less costly when needed. The Evora has an extruded aluminum chassis. It is 60 percent more rigid and helps reduce weight, making the car more responsive and easier to handle. The car has a 3.5-liter Toyota 2GR-FE V6 engine that provides 276 horsepower. The supercharged 3.5-liter Toyota 2GR-FZE V6 offers owners 345 horsepower. Engines are teamed with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Smooth rides are guaranteed with Pirelli P Zero tires. The interior of the Evora is custom luxury leather. A cooled boot area behind the engine can hold a set of golf clubs. It has an Alpine navigation/stereo system, air-conditioning, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power windows, trip computer, CD/MP3 player, iPod integration, and other luxury appointments. A Premium package is also available for added luxury items. Evora is a popular sports car that was named "Britain's Best Driver's Car" for 2009 by Autocar magazine, and also was tapped as "Car of the Year 2009" by EVO magazine.
