![]() About the Cadillac CTSThe Cadillac CTS is a mid-size vehicle sold as a coupe, sedan or sport wagon. The design has a front engine placement and comes in either four-wheel or rear-wheel drive. The CTS sports a smaller frame than previous generations of Cadillacs. Combined with a pair of stronger V6 engines, the CTS delivers reasonable performance. While the second generation was an improvement over the initial design, the CTS still has some flaws that prevent it from becoming a top-tier model in the luxury sedan class.CTS buyers can choose from a pair of V6 engines producing either 270 or 306 horsepower. The base V6 achieves 18 mpg in city driving and 27 mpg on the highway. Although the more powerful engine averages the same mpg, it is believed to have one less mile per gallon in combined driving... The first generation of the CTS was released during the 2003 model year. It was the first Cadillac to be designed and constructed using GM's Sigma platform as a base. Reviews of the car criticized the first generation's V6 engine, which produced only 220 horsepower. GM upgraded the first generation's engine to a 255 horsepower version in 2004. The second generation received two different engine choices with more horsepower. Sales picked up with the new engines' introductions, making the CTS one of the best-selling, American-designed luxury sedans. The 2011 Cadillac CTS is produced in five different trim levels, including the 3.0 base, 3.0 Luxury, 3.0 Performance, 3.6 Performance and 3.6 Premium. The 3.0 base offers 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and vinyl leatherette upholstery among its standard features. The 3.0 Luxury trim adds a heating element to the front seats and bluetooth capabilities. The 3.0 Performance includes all the 3.0 Luxury equipment, but upgrades the suspension and adds a limited-slip rear differential. The 3.6 Performance adds a larger V6 engine and more speakers. Either of the Performance trim levels is eligible for a Luxury Level Two upgrade, which adds heated and cooled front seats, key-free ignition and a remote starting system for the engine. The 3.6 Premium trim includes the Level Two upgrades and a navigation system. The Cadillac CTS was awarded the 2002 North American Car of the Year award. Motor Trend gave the CTS its Car of the Year award for 2008. Car and Driver named the CTS one of its 10 Best Cars every year from 2008 to 2011.
