It offers a 3.0-liter V6 or 4.2-liter V8 gasoline engine, as well as a choice of two different diesel engines. Audi upgraded this car's automatic transmission to a six-speed Tiptronic, as opposed to the original's five-speed automatic. In the 2005 model year, the American specification Audi Allroad offered an extensive list of standard features. Passenger comfort comes from its large sunroof, self-dimming mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and twelve-way power front seats. Its electronics package included a stereo with CD-changer and the ability to control a satellite radio tuner, as well as an advanced trip computer. Off-road capability came from its Torsen differential-based all-wheel drive system and its air suspension with adjustable height, giving it SUV-class ground clearance. The new Allroad Quattro, not available in North America, has received honors from Off Road magazine as the best crossover vehicle. The previous version enjoyed a status as one of the first true crossover vehicles. Car reviews of its day frequently commented on its design, placing it between a car and a SUV. One example is Car and Driver Magazine, who noted that its truck-like appearance made it a perfect sporty station wagon for those who wanted to hide their preference for that type of car.
