![]() About the Acura RDXThe Acura RDX is Acura's first entry into the compact crossover SUV, or CUV, market. The RDX is available in two different models, front-wheel or all-wheel-drive, both of which seat five and can be purchased with or without an additional technology package. Powered by a lightweight 4-cylinder engine, the RDX is a front engine model that exhibits keen maneuverability and a generally smooth ride. With its spacious backseat and comfortable interior, the RDX is an excellent family car.The RDX is powered by a 2.3-liter DOHC i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine that performs with surprising V-6 verve at a significantly lighter weight, and drivers can access a 260lb torque lift by revving the engine to 4500 rpm. This translates to performance that doesn't sacrifice highway mileage. The EPA... View more estimates the RDX's miles per gallon for the front-drive model as 19 in the city and 24 on the highway. This diminishes only slightly on the all-wheel drive model to 17 city mpg and 22 highway mpg. The RDX's performance is further enhanced with four-disc anti-lock brakes. Unfortunately, its towing capacity of just 1500 pounds and limited rear cargo space are less than impressive, but its specifications will suit the needs of the casual outdoorsman. The RDX is manufactured in Marysville, Ohio by Honda of America and was designed in Japan. The RDX was developed as Acura's answer to the burgeoning CUV market. With CUV sales forecast to skyrocket, Acura developed the RDX to appeal to this growing market. It debuted in spring 2006 at the New York Auto Show, and the 2007 model went on sale in August of that year. Initially available only as an all-wheel-drive model, the front-wheel-drive option was added for the 2010 models. Since its inception, the car has consistently performed well in road and safety tests; although sales have not been stellar, a retooling of the model in 2010 freshened up the RDX's image and bottom line. The RDX is available as both a front-wheel and all-wheel-drive vehicle and includes an optional technology package that can be purchased for either model. Adding the technology package introduces a bevy of features, including satellite navigation and communication systems linked to Zagat® Survey reviews, weather, and traffic reports; a 410-watt, 10-speaker sound system; and steering wheel-mounted voice recognition. Exterior features that can be added to customize the RDX's appearance include body side molding, roof racks, running boards, and front and rear splashguards. Even without the extra features, the RDX is not just comfortable but downright luxurious. The RDX has received excellent reviews since its inception, and it garnered the industry's highest safety praise when in 2006 it earned the NHSTA 5 Star" rating for driver and front passenger crashes and front and side impacts.
